Adoptacoastline was initiated
by one committed person
in partnership with

In 2009 artist and photographer Jennifer Meranto began
a personal journey to offset her 1000 bag footprint on the island of Antigua by
adopting and stewarding 5 miles of wildlife hunting and nesting grounds
that were awash with accumulated man made litter and marine debris.

She self funded her project by mining the coastlines for materials to create circle economy original art.

In 2017 volunteer Kat Byles adopted and stewarded Crabbe Hill Beach. Adoptacoastline welcomed her as a Director in 2023. She kicked off our expansion by facilitating the non profit registration, collaborating on fund-raising, communications and daily management.
As a veteran nature steward Community Elder Lenore Weston also joined as a Director in 2023. She has a long standing relationship with Adoptacoastline and consistently brings a wealth of valuable support.
Founder Jennifer Meranto is the visionary and artistic director. In 2023 she launched the hub showroom in the heart of English Harbour, Antigua that showcases Adoptacoastline’s circle economy collections and original artwork.

Global Environmental Fund Small Grants Programme
In 2017 Adoptacoastline was awarded their first grant for an
innovative youth stewardship program
Positioning youth as leaders and spokespeople for the environment had far reaching impact, resulting in lasting behavior changes.
In collaboration with overseas volunteers Adoptacoastline introduced local youth to
coastal stewardship, fabricating and managing upcycled tire bins, designing circle economy products, marketing and media making.
The success of the program was published as case studies:
Global Environmental Fund Small Grants Programme recognized the potential global impact of the stewardship model created by Adoptacoastline by awarding a second grant.
2023 -2025 SGP Coastal Community Stewardship
10 diverse community groups across Antigua are participating in long term stewardship and regenerative practices by the oceans edge including beach cleanups, upcycled tire bin making, tree planting and circle economy workshops.
Our media presence has expanded with impactful Instagram reels.
2024 - 2025 GEF Inclusive Challenge Award
Women and Girls Coastal Stewardship and Wellness Intiative will take us to the small islands of Barbuda, Nevis, and Carriacou. Groundwork for launch is underway.

Funding Partners
The Sandals Foundation provided funds for ongoing community stewardship and regeneration of the Johnson’s Point south coast wetlands and coastlines, creating the opportunity for Sunshine Home for Girls youth residents to train as coastal stewards, participate in circle economy workshops, and learn to swim and snorkel.
Carlisle Bay Antigua adopted Carlisle Bay Beach, the beach adjacent to their resort property, This action gave opportunity for ocean edge stewardship and regenerative learning to 12 youth stewards from Old Road Primary School.

Non-Profit Community Collaborations
Founders Billy and Charlotte worked with Adoptacoastline in 2017 as workaway volunteers on the plastic bottle bin project before starting their own non profit creating circle economy goods from plastic bottle caps.
Founder Joshuanette and her team collect and recycle our collected plastic, glass and tin.
Founder Julie Esty partners with us on organizing coastal cleanups in hard to access areas requiring divers, boats, kayaks.
Commissoned Adoptacoastline to make circle economy trophies from reclaimed wood for their 25th Anniversary international sailing event in 2023.
